Palm Beach International Airport has now joined the list of things renamed after US President Donald Trump. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Monday (local time) to rename Palm Beach International Airport as President Donald J. Trump International Airport, ABC7 reported.
Trump, who often travels through Palm Beach Airport on his way to his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, is to be honored with the renaming. According to a statement from DeSantis’ office, the governor approved the “commercial service airports” legislation passed by the state legislature.
Here is a list of things named after Trump
The renaming of Palm Beach International Airport follows Trump’s push to have other major institutions bear his name, according to reports. This includes a recent push to rename the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts the Trump-Kennedy Center, although such a move would likely require congressional approval, as would a proposal to rename the United States Institute of Peace after him.
In addition, the American president also proposed renaming New York’s Penn Station and Washington’s Dulles Airport in his honor. Last week, the U.S. Treasury Department said that starting this summer, paper currency will bear Trump’s signature, marking the first time a sitting president’s signature has appeared on U.S. money.
His name has also been linked to a proposed class of Navy warships, a visa program for wealthy foreign nationals, a government-backed prescription drug website and federally managed savings accounts for children.
Earlier this month, a federal arts commission made up of Trump appointees approved a commemorative gold coin bearing his likeness, according to The Guardian. The coin is part of a series that the United States Mint plans to release for the country’s 250th anniversary this year.
In February, the White House said Trump had proposed removing his control over funding for New York’s Hudson River Tunnel project in exchange for support from Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer.
Renaming Palm Beach Airport
As stated in the document, the airport will be renamed subject to administrative steps involving the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the signing of an agreement with the rights holder. The agreement shall provide that Palm Beach County shall receive a perpetual, unrestricted and royalty-free right to use the name President Donald J. Trump International Airport, together with reasonable abbreviations or variations, for signage, advertising, marketing, merchandising, promotion and for branding the airport’s operations, services, facilities and for all related purposes.
According to state legislation, the law is set to take effect on July 1. The Guardian reported that last week, Representative Brian Mast introduced legislation that proposes changing the airport’s three-letter code from PBI to DJT, reflecting Trump’s initials.
FAA Statement Renaming Palm Beach Airport
In a statement, the FAA said airport naming is a local matter and does not require its approval. However, he added that the agency would still need to carry out some administrative tasks, including updating navigation charts and databases.
Eric Trump reacts to the move
While neither Trump nor the White House has yet issued a statement on the development, Eric Trump responded to the move in a post on X, saying he was proud to have played a small role in making it happen. He also thanked DeSantis, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier and others.
