Palghar tempo truck crash: 13 dead; CM Fadnavis announces compensation

At least 13 people were killed and 20 others injured in an accident on Monday (May 18, 2026) in Dhanivari region of Maharashtra’s Palghar district where a container vehicle collided with a truck carrying a wedding party on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway.

According to the police, the truck was carrying at least 40 people from Bapugaon region to Dhanivari for an engagement around 4 pm.

“Eicher Tempo with registration number MH 48 DC 7474, carrying wedding guests, was said to be traveling on the wrong side of the Mumbai-Gujarat road at the time of the accident. The vehicle collided with a trailer (NL 01 AC 9118) near Dhaniwari village around 4:00 pm. The accident involved an EM85 motorcycle from 04 to EM85. Palghar District Administration, confirmed 13 deaths.

The dead included nine men and four women and about 14 critically injured survivors were taken to Vedantaa Hospital in Dahanu taluka and the rest were taken to a hospital in Kasa district.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a financial assistance of ₹5,000 each to the next of kin of all the 13 deceased.

Mr. Fadnavis said, “13 persons died in the accidents and the injured were admitted to the Kasa and Dhundalwadi district hospitals. I am in constant touch with the district administration and the Superintendent of Police.”
