
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday welcomed the Union Government’s decision to extend the duration of work from 100 days to 125 days under the Viksit Bharat — Rozgar and Ajeevika (Gramin) Mission Guarantee (VB—G RAM G) Bill.
However, in his post on social media, Mr Palaniswami urged the Center to retain the words – Mahatma Gandhi – in the name of the proposed scheme, which was till now called the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
He also criticized Chief Minister MK Stalin for not extending the tenure to 150 despite assuring the citizens of the state ahead of the 2021 assembly polls.
All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Workers’ Rights Acquisition Coordinator O. Panneerselvam said in a statement that the VB-G RAM G bill will reduce the number of worker-beneficiaries and reduce wages for agricultural workers during the peak sowing and harvesting seasons, besides increasing the financial burden on the states. He demanded that the bill be either withdrawn or referred to a joint parliamentary committee.
