AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday questioned the silence of TVK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay over the arrest of a TVK functionary in Nagapattinam in connection with “one of the biggest narcotics busts in the coastal Tamil Nadu region in recent years”.
Referring to the Union Finance Ministry’s official statement regarding the seizure of narcotics in a social media post, Mr. Palaniswami questioned the Chief Minister’s alleged silence in this regard.
“Under the former regime, the seizure of pseudoephedrine in the Jaffer Sadiq case sent shockwaves among people. In this case involving party functionary TVK Bhoopalan, fully processed meth crystals weighing around 137 kg and worth around ₹ 400 crore were seized,” Palaniswami said.
The AIADMK leader drew the Chief Minister’s attention to the fact that the seizure was not carried out by the state police but by the Directorate of Financial Intelligence, which comes under the central government, and said the Mr Vijay-led government should be ashamed of the incident.
