The main Minister of Assam Himanta Bisw Sarma on Wednesday (May 28, 2025) burned to a deputy another salvo and the newly anointed President of the Gaurav Gogoi State Congress after the other said he had once visited Pakistan.

Mr. Gogoi said he left for Pakistan in 2013 to meet his British wife Elizabeth Colburn, who worked on an international climate change project in a neighboring country. Her work was not related to the assembly of espionage or intelligence, insisted.
“They (Bharatiya Janata Party) make it a problem that is like a script of Bollywood Class C,” he said, adding that the chief Minister Assam “has this old habit of misleading people”.
Mr. Gogoi, who claimed that the citizenship of his wife and children was “personal affairs”, took Mr. Sarma Jibe by referring to his claim that Rahul Gandhi, the leader of Rahul Gandhi, used Jodo Nyay Yatra in 2024.
Mr Sarma said that the Congress of the representative Congress MEP representing Jorhat “finally admitted” that he had visited Pakistan.

“But let’s be very clear; that’s just the beginning, not the end. What lies before us is much more serious. There is any sensible land supported by trusted inputs and documented information to indicate that Shri Gogoi maintained closeness with Pakistani facility,” he said on X.
Later he told journalists that Mr. Gogoi and his wife “deeply involved in anti-Indian activities” and what the Congress deputy revealed “is only 10%” of what is known and will be published after the special investigation team complements its investigation by September.
“We will publish every document, every evidence we have. The inhabitants of Assam and India deserve to know the truth,” the main minister said.
Meanwhile, head of the congress and former party president, Ripun Bora, said he had received a notice from the Department of Investigation of the Crime for the “Unlawful Accusation of the Chief Minister” on Pakistan’s legacy Mr. Gogoi.
“It is an attempt to bother me, intimidate me and suppress my voice. But as a citizen complying with the law, I decided to discover before the wake of cm. If they send me to jail, I am ready to go to jail,” he said.
