As an Indian citizen, a doctor from Pakistan was registered, “without nationality”, was informed on Thursday (August 7, 2025) as an Indian citizen.
Nanikraz Khanoomal Mukhi (53), who had a Sonographic Clinic in Pakistan Hyderabad, decided to move to India in 2009 for the education of his children and escape possible religious persecution.
Dr. Mukhi was registered as an Indian 5th August pursuant to Section 5 (1) (a). A) of the 1955 Citizenship Act by the district judge Ahmedabad.
The section prescribes citizenship to a person of Indian origin, who is commonly resident in India for seven years before the application for registration and is not an illegal migrants.

Dr. Mukhi ran from the pillar to the post to register as an Indian since 2021, when he gave up his Pakistani passport after receiving a letter from the Collector’s Office that the application was processed and will soon receive citizenship. In 2016 he asked for citizenship.
Clinic
As his application remained stuck in bureaucracy, his clinic in Ahmedabad was sealed by medical officials because he was not an Indian citizen. Dr. Mukhi moved the High Court in Gujarat against the Indian Association and the Gujarat State 30 April. After the legal representative of the Government of the Department informed the court that Dr. Mukhi was awarded citizenship, decided to withdraw the petition.
“As an Indian, I will now receive legal rights and the right to practice as a doctor. I can apply for an election card and passport. I have had no rights in the last four years. I haven’t had nationality yet. It’s a huge relief,” Mukhi Hindu.
He added that he would soon apply for a medical license with the Medical Council Gujarat.
Míka Dr. Mukhi, who asked him for citizenship, was awarded a naturalization certificate. His three children acquired citizenship after registering under the Citizenship Change (CAA), 2019, which came into force on March 11, 2024.
Citizenship is subject to the Union list and decided on the Ministry of the Interior.
