Pakistan were penalized for slow speeding after a humiliating defeat against India

Pakistan have been fined five per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over during their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Group A match against Harmanpreet Kaur’s India at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Sunday 14 June.

The charges were leveled by on-field umpires Claire Polosak and Jacquline Williams, along with third umpire Eloise Sheridan and fourth umpire Sue Redfern, after Pakistan were found to be one behind the required rate once timeouts were factored in.

The sanction was imposed by Trudy Anderson of the ICC Emirates International Umpire Panel. Pakistan’s crushing defeat of India by 64 runs.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana admitted the offense and accepted the proposed punishment, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.

Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined five percent of their match fee for each time their side does not play within the stipulated time.

PAKISTAN TREASURES AGAINST INDIA

Pakistan suffered a nightmare against India as they were bowled out for 106 in 17 overs chasing a target of 171. Although Pakistan struck early by dismissing Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana’s brilliant 68 put India firmly in control before Richa Ghosh’s quickfire 34 provided a late boost to help the team post 170.

In reply, Muneeba Ali luckily scored 41 to give Pakistan a solid platform. However, the innings fell apart against India’s spin attack. Deepti Sharma caused havoc with a sensational five-wicket haul while Shree Charani chipped in with three wickets as Pakistan suffered a crushing 64-run defeat.

Pakistan entered the Women’s T20 World Cup after a disappointing run in the Ireland tri-series where they did not register a single win.

Their struggles continued to lead the tournament as they lost both their warm-up matches against Sri Lanka and Scotland before suffering a crushing 64-run defeat to India in their Group A opener.

Pakistan will now look to bounce back and get their campaign back on track when they take on South Africa in Birmingham on Wednesday 17 June.
