Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif once again thanked US President Donald Trump for resolving the India-Pakistan conflict in May.
New Delhi has consistently maintained that India and Pakistan reached an agreement on May 10 to end the conflict after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile attacks, and that no third party was involved in the process.
“It was President Trump’s courageous and decisive leadership that brought a ceasefire between Pakistan and India, restored peace in South Asia, averted a major war and saved millions of lives,” Sharif said in a speech at Azerbaijan’s Victory Day parade in Baku on Saturday (November 8, 2025).
Since May 10, when Mr Trump announced on social media that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire” after a “long night” of talks brokered by Washington, he has repeated his claim to have “helped settle” tensions between the two countries.
India has consistently denied any third party intervention.
Pakistan has praised Mr Trump on several occasions, saying he brokered a ceasefire during the conflict in May.
India launched Operation Sindoor on 7 May, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the 22 April Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.
Mr. Sharif also mentioned Kashmir in his speech, saying Azerbaijan’s victory in Karabakh is a beacon of hope for all nations fighting oppression.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan seeks peace but will not allow anyone to challenge its sovereignty or violate its territorial integrity.
The parade also included contingents of armed forces from Pakistan and Turkey marching alongside the Azerbaijani forces. The ceremony also included a wonderful flyover of JF-17 Thunder jets.
