The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday rubbished reports that members of its T20 World Cup squad had been penalized for not making it to the semi-finals. PCB spokesperson Amir Mir dismissed the speculation, saying that no fines had been imposed on the players.
Earlier reports claimed that the board was considering a heavy financial penalty following Pakistan’s disappointing campaign in the T20 World Cup 2026. According to The Express Tribune, each player was reportedly set to be fined PKR 5 million (around Rs 16 million) for failing to meet expectations.

However, Mir made it clear that no such move has been finalized. He said that the board is only exploring ways to make the players more accountable for their performances, especially considering that they currently earn around PKR 6-7 million.
“No player has been fined but yes the board is thinking of working out a formula for the players as they get a lot of incentives when they perform well. But nothing is final and no player has been fined,” Mir told reporters as quoted by PTI.
HOW PAKISTAN KILLED IN T20 WC 2026
Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign ended in disappointment as the former champions failed to reach the semi-finals. They finished second in Group A with six points and a net rate of +0.976, qualifying for the Super Eight after wins over the Netherlands, USA and Namibia.
Their only loss in the group stage came against India, while a dominant 102-run win over Namibia in Colombo confirmed their progress to the next round.
But the Super Eight proved to be much tougher. Placed in Group 2 with England, New Zealand and Sri Lanka, Pakistan began a costly battle against New Zealand after the match was washed away by rain. They then lost by two wickets to England in Kandy, with Harry Brook’s century leading England to victory.
Pakistan sealed a five-run win over Sri Lanka in their last Super Eight match thanks to a brilliant century from Sahibzad Farhan and 84 from Fakhar Zaman. However, the win was not enough as they needed to win by at least 65 runs to increase their clean sheet and overtake New Zealand.
Sri Lanka finished on 207 for six, leaving Pakistan third in Group 2 with three points – level with New Zealand but behind in pure pace – and crashed out of the tournament.
