Pakistan cricket set to introduce new PSL selection for 2026 season: Report

January 17, 2026

The Pakistan Cricket Board is considering introducing a new concept called “drauction” in the Pakistan Super League amid a clear split among the eight franchises over the introduction of a player auction instead of the prevailing draft system.

The PSL Board of Governors, which met in Lahore on Friday with owners of all the franchises, agreed to experiment with the concept of “druck” signing of local and foreign players. The PCB did not specify what the “auction” was, but one insider said it was likely to retain the proposed categorized system for local players and an auction for overseas players in PSL.

Some franchises argued in favor of an auction system, pointing out that with the PSL now being held in the same window as the Indian Premier League, many unsold players in the IPL auction would only be available for the PSL if they fetched competitive prices in the auction.

Some franchises expressed concern that the player auction would test their finances, as their allocated $1.3 million player draft purse would have to be increased to accommodate the auction system. The council meeting confirmed that the 11th edition of the PSL will begin on March 26. The meeting also discussed the schedule and venues for the next edition of PSL.
