SALMAN RUES LACK OF PERFORMANCE
After the match against India, Salman Agha admitted that Pakistan had to regret the underwhelming bowling performance, especially from their spinners. The team relied heavily on spin, bowled 18 overs while Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled just two overs. However, the strategy did not yield the desired results.
Salman also admitted that Pakistan did not do themselves any favors during the run chase. The early wickets put them on the back foot, forcing them to chase for the rest of the innings and making the task much more difficult.
“We went with four spinners, they were off. The execution was lacking in some parts. We didn’t start well with the bat. If you lose 3-4 wickets in a power over, you always chase the game,” Salman said at the post-match handing over ceremony.
After being asked to bat first, India posted an impressive 175 for seven, powered by a fluent 77 from Ishan Kishan. Saim Ayub was outstanding with the ball for Pakistan, finishing with impressive figures of 4-0-25-3.
However, in the hunt for a run, Pakistan struggled to build partnerships. Apart from Usman Khan’s 44 off 34 balls, none of the batsmen were able to mount a serious attack against the Indian bowling attack.
Pakistan’s 61-run defeat also marked the biggest loss by runs in men’s T20I history between the arch-rivals. Meanwhile, India remained unbeaten in the tournament and sealed their place in the Super 8s.
