
Debasish Bhattacharya, Hindu Brahmin, narrowly escaped terrorist bullets during the deadly Pahalgam Terrorist attack by reciting the Islamic “Kalima”, a statement of faith that consists of the basic beliefs of Muslims.
Bhattacharya, a Bengal professor at Assam University in Silchar, was on holiday with his family in Jammu and Kashmir.
Brahmin just 20 minutes after visiting the meadow Baisaran heard a shot that was originally assumed that the forest department fired to frighten wild animals.
“We just enjoyed a look when I heard a shot. When I asked, I was told that it could be from a forest department to scare wild animals,” Bhattacharya NDTV said during a telephone conversation.
Soon, however, he saw a man with a weapon who shot a tourist after a short conversation with the couple. Soon four terrorists with the performance of weapons began to target tourists visiting a picturesque place.

Bhattacharya said that the people around him were crouched on the ground and began to recite “Kalma”, a statement of faith that forms the basic beliefs of Muslims.
“So I also watched them. The terrorist approached us and shot a man next to me. Then he looked at me and asked what I was doing,” Bhattacharya said. “Kya Bol Raha Hai,” the terrorist in Hindi asked.
The frightened Bhattacharya said he began to recite Kalma Louder, “and did not answer his question”. “I don’t know what happened; he just turned and left to join his group on the other side,” he shared.
He stressed that it wasn’t just Kalima that saved his life, and the professor said he watched what everyone else was doing “absolutely immediate, heard the mentality”.

Miraculous escape
The professor said that after the terrorists left, he and his wife and son immediately left the place and went back.
“Somehow I managed to escape by crossing a 7-foot high fence,” he said, adding that the hoofs of the horse were walking.
Bhattacharya said NDTV that the locals helped them. “Our horses guide (pony riders_ came to look for us. They came back for us. They found us and took us back.”
He shared that the cab driver they welcomed for coming to Baisaran Meadows was rushed back to his hotel in Srinagar.

Assam’s government to bring Bhattacharyans back
Bhattacharya, who shared that his family’s trip was supposed to end on Saturday, said the Assam government would agree to bring him and his family back to their hometown.
The Main Minister Assam office (CMO) also published the same update on Twitter (now X). He said, “Assam Cm Office Assam spoke to the survivors of Assam from the terrorist attack Dastardly Pahalgam and took the complete short incident they faced yesterday.”
“The return of the whole family to the state is organized by a priority, and the government of Assam is in contact with the Indian government to bring the family back to Assam first,” he added.
Assam Cm Himanta Bisw Sarma also said that his office is in contact with Bhattacharya. “We will soon ensure his safe return to Assam.”

Terrorist attack Pahalgam
A group of terrorists launched fire on the meadows of Baisaran, killed at least 26 people, mostly tourists from other countries and injured several others.
Some of the eyewitnesses argued that the victims were asked for their religion before they were shot. Terrorists focused only on men.
