When the fatal remains of the victims who were killed in a terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, South Kashmir, arrived on Thursday (April 24, 2025) to their homes, relatives raised questions about any security presence in the thousands of tourists. Up to 26 people were killed in a terrorist attack focused on male tourists who were chosen on the basis of their religion.

There was no single military person, nor was there any medical team.”

Watch: Pahalgam Attack | At the meeting with all parties, the leaders speak against terrorism and assure the government of support
The Minister of the Interior of the Union AMIT Shah reported on Thursday about the meeting of all parties that Baisaran was open to tourists without informing about the police and hotel owners were responsible and followed by a security protocol before sending tourists there. The Minister learned that he said at the meeting that the incident should not happen that there was no security on the day of the incident.
The Minister learned that he said that security agencies could not trace any communication signal in the 50 km circuit Baisaran for at least five days before the attack. Terrorists did not use any communication equipment, reportedly the Minister informed the deputies.
He said it was wrong to make an exaggerated statement that it was a failure of security, but the hotels should inform the police that they are opening a new place for tourists.
He said after the incident that four places were closed and security was ensured in other places.
CRPF official said they were the first to respond to the attack. “Pony operators warned us that there was a terrorist attack. The CRPF team evacuated three victims that suffered wounds,” said the clerk, who added that the counterproposals (CI) in this area is under the army.
Asked why there was no presence of a unit in the meadow or around, the CRPF official said: “Our commitment is based on the requirements of the police and Kashmir. If the police ask us to help them in the opening duties of the road or ensure VIP, we follow the instructions.
The source of defense said there were no concrete intelligence inputs that would indicate that the tourist place could be focused on terrorists, and according to government policy, the deployment of the army is consciously held outside tourist destinations.
“There were 15 days back of a possible terrorist attack in the Anantnag region, which is quite common in front of AMARNATH YATRA. So we were in the emergency room around the usual places and axes.
Police official J&K said there was no specific threat to Pahalgam, but there were entrances about other places, including Srinagar.
The source of defense said that the intention of the attack, especially due to the selection of the location, seems to be clearly focused on the growing number of tourists. Growing apples and tourists are two main sources of income for locals. Just two weeks back, the hailstorm storm caused significant damage to Apple crops, and the terrorist attack ensured that tourism is now completed on sometime. This hit the core of the income for the locals, the officials noted.
