
Kunnamangalam block panchayat and Center for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) under the Block Innovation Cluster (BIC) project to rejuvenate Mampuzha river.
The project to address gray water pollution and rejuvenate the river is supported by the National Institute of Technology – Calicut for geospatial and technical inputs.
The Block Innovation Cluster (BIC) initiative was jointly formulated by Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) and Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC) under the flagship program ‘One Local Body, One Idea’ (OLOI). The project aims to create structured partnerships between local governments and academic or research institutions to develop sustainable, technology-driven solutions to local challenges.
Officials from Kunnamangalam Block Panchayat, KILA, scientists from CWRDM and faculty representatives from NIT-C were present during the signing of the MoU.
CWRDM will conduct water quality testing and diagnostic studies of the river under the project, while Kunnamangalam Block Panchayat will facilitate field work, community coordination and local access to data.
