The new lane segregation system at the pick-up area in front of the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru came into force on 11
The new measures and fees for overstaying at the arrival curb are currently only in place at Terminal 2 of the airport.
Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which operates KIA, said the new rules will come into effect at Terminal 1 from December 13.
The new lane segregation system at the collection zone in front of the two KIA terminals was supposed to be implemented from December 8, but was delayed by a few days due to the disruption of IndiGo flights.
“Following the stabilization of the recent flight disruptions, KIA will continue to implement new pick-up measures and overstay fees at arrivals curbs, effective December 11 at Terminal 2 and December 13 at Terminal 1. These measures are designed to streamline movement at the curb and improve the overall ground experience for passengers and airport stakeholders,” and we appreciate the continued support and cooperation of all partners during this transition.
According to BIAL, the airport will provide eight minutes of free use of the zone to all users, beyond which a charge of ₹150 will be charged for 8 to 13 minutes and ₹300 for 13 to 18 minutes. Any vehicle exceeding 18 minutes will be towed to the nearest police station and fines and towing fees will be charged.
It said improved passenger pick-up arrangements would be put in place to streamline passenger movement, reduce congestion and improve security, discipline and overall comfort in the arrivals areas at the airport.
KIA, India’s third largest airport, handles around 130,000 passengers every day.
“The daily volume of approximately 100,000 vehicles passing through the airport’s road network places a significant strain on its ground facilities, particularly the curbs (drop-off and loading lanes) in front of the terminals,” BIAL said.
60 IndiGo flights were canceled on December 11
IndiGo’s flight disruption entered 10th day on December 11 as 60 flights were canceled in KIA. Airport officials said 32 arrivals and 28 departures were cancelled.
