Over 88,000 Ganesha idols immersed in Telangana: DGP

By Friday evening, more than 88,000 Ganesha idols had been immersed in the city as police officers worked overnight to complete the exercise by Saturday morning.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, Director General of Police CV Anand said the immersion process was almost complete in most districts. In Hyderabad, efforts were on to end the exercise around 10:30 am on Saturday, while it could take longer in Nalgonda and Nirmal.

Mr Anand estimated that the actual number of idols in Telangana could be between 3.5 lakh and 4 lakh if ​​those installed in flats, houses and other private premises were included.

In Hyderabad, the procession started a little later in the afternoon. The shift from Rajendranagar and Shamshabad took longer due to the greater geographical spread of the areas.

Over 25,000 police personnel have been deployed in Hyderabad in the last 10 days. Personnel from the Telangana Special Police, Rapid Deployment Force, NDRF and OCTOPUS were also deployed, while five more companies from the DGP reserve remained on standby.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar on a motorcycle inspected the main routes of the procession which included MJ Market, Basheerbagh and Liberty and instructed the personnel to ensure that the procession moves peacefully.
