Nearly one million vehicles entered Cyberabad on Tuesday (June 23, 2026) morning despite heavy overnight rain and widespread waterlogging. Cyberabad police said around six lakh vehicles passed through the IT corridor alone around noon. The downpour left commuters grappling with flooded roads, delayed office transport services and traffic jams across the city.

The morning rush unfolded even as traffic police personnel stood in ankle-deep water at several places and manually regulated traffic through waterlogged junctions and flooded stretches to keep vehicles moving. Civil and emergency response teams were also deployed at several hotspots to clear the accumulated water and debris.

Night shift workers will be the first to experience the impact

The first to feel the impact of the downpour were IT employees returning home after night shifts. The rain, which started shortly after midnight, continued till the early hours of the morning, inundating roads across Hitec, Gachibowli and Nanakramguda towns and making travel difficult between 4am and 8am

Suffering on flooded roads

Aman Nair, a private employee working in Hitec City, said his journey home turned into an ordeal following flooded roads. When he left his workplace around 5.30am, it took him more than 90 minutes to reach Habsiguda as several sections were submerged in muddy water.

The rain also disrupted office transport for night shift employees. B. Lalithya, a technical staff member from Khajaguda Eco Park, said many workers were left waiting as office cabs struggled to navigate the waterlogged roads.

Traffic was seriously affected, he said, as cabins meant for early departures of employees were stuck in traffic and waterlogged sections. “Cabins allocated for the 10.30pm check-out shift were unable to return. Usually no more than three staff per cabin, but today up to seven passengers had to be accommodated in one vehicle,” he said.

Worst affected routes

The weather-related outage coincided with one of the busiest days of the week in the IT corridor. In several sections, the morning witnessed slow traffic. The Serilingampally-Gachubowli corridor was among the worst affected, while waterlogging on the Miyapur-Bachupally route necessitated emergency pumping near the Nexa service centre. Earthmovers were deployed to clear the accumulated water and debris, and last-minute diversions were announced.

“The journey was painfully slow all the way to work. I waited for over 20 minutes for the Mehdipatnam signal and then another 10 minutes to cross the Cable Bridge and reach ITC Kohenur,” said a commuter.

The delay reflected the wider situation in the city, where several key intersections and low-lying stretches remained waterlogged until the morning rush hour. Congestion was also reported at Malkam Cheruvu, IIIT Junction and Patancheru, where ongoing construction activity further complicated movement.

In Hyderabad, waterlogging was reported under the Dr flyover. Manmohan Singh near Ramdev Baba Mandir, on the 100 Feet Road stretch between Jiyaguda and Puranapool and along Shaikpet Nala in Tolichowki. Officials described the Ramdev Baba Mandir stretch as one of the most challenging spots where the traffic police and HYDRAA teams deployed earthmoving machines to dig a trench and pump out the accumulated rainwater and mud.

Waterlogging was also reported in Rajendranagar and Mehdipatnam, while officials took care of flooding near pillars number 305 and 365 of the Aramghar flyover corridor.

Police matters

The Cyberabad Police Business Resilience Command and Control Center has issued a cautionary warning to motorists against waterlogging, mud deposits, potholes and damaged road surfaces. Police urged commuters to factor in the extra travel time and advised companies to schedule staff check-in times whenever possible. Organizations were also encouraged to consider core staffing and remote work arrangements depending on local conditions.

“Following yesterday’s intense cloudburst over parts of Cyberabad, road conditions may be affected by waterlogging, mud deposits, potholes and damaged road surfaces. Drive with extreme caution,” the advisory said.

With rain forecast for Tuesday evening, authorities remained on alert, carrying out emergency repairs and clearing vulnerable areas, while preparing a fresh sign-off notice to avoid a repeat of the morning’s congestion.
