Over 20 students of Kozhikode college suspended after group clash over social media post

More than 20 students have been suspended from MET College of Arts and Science, an unaided college affiliated to the University of Calicut, at Nadapuram in Kozhikode, Keralam, following a clash between two groups over a social media post.

According to university authorities, 16 of the suspended students are in their third year of undergraduate studies and six others are in their first year.

The dispute between the two groups is said to have started on Friday over a social media post. Then one of the younger students was allegedly beaten up by seniors on the road leading to the school on Monday, police said. The incident soon escalated into a clash between the two groups as more students joined. Visuals of the fight were also shared on social media groups and many parents arrived in the area.

However, initial attempts by the police to bring the situation under control failed and additional personnel had to be called. Although the injured students were admitted to nearby hospitals, some of them clashed there as well. The police subsequently took some students into custody and registered cases against six of them.

Meanwhile, cases have been registered against at least 10 more students after another clash was reported in Thooneri in the same area.
