The Congress government is providing free electricity of up to 200 units to 53 lakh households across Telangana, representing an annual expenditure of ₹2,830 crore. Of this, the government pays ₹42 crore every year to supply free power to poor households in Vikarabad district alone, said Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
Making the announcement during a series of programs in Parigi (Vikarabad district) on Wednesday, Mr. Vikramarka said electrical infrastructure work worth ₹1,000 crore has been sanctioned for the constituency. This involves the construction of nine substations, a 33/11 kV substation, a 400 kV substation and a 220 kV substation. An additional investment of ₹ 3,000 crore in defence-related projects is expected to create significant employment opportunities for the local youth, he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister said major works are underway on substations to support future industrial growth in Parigi. He said the Manneguda-Bijapur road was sanctioned during the undivided state but was neglected by the previous BRS government for 10 years. The Congress government, he said, had resolved the NGT-2 issue, allowing the four-lane project to move ahead quickly.
He criticized the opposition leaders for saying that the Congress government was hurting the poor. “If we list the works of the previous government, it did nothing,” he said, questioning the unfulfilled promises of 3-acre land for the poor, one job per house, Bangaru Telangana, irrigation for one lakh acres in each constituency and Krishna river projects. He also cited the ₹1-lakh crore Kaleshwaram project scam, saying it was now widely known.
He criticized BRS leaders for taking photographs at MGNREGA workplaces and “making a mockery of democracy”. He said the previous government promised two-room houses but “didn’t build even one for the poor”. In contrast, he said, the Congress government had sanctioned 3,500 houses per constituency at ₹5,000 each, adding up to 4.5 lakh houses across the state, and invited the opposition to visit any constituency and view the houses under construction.
He said the government has spent ₹1,60,310 crore on social programmes, including Rythu Bharos, loan waiver, bonuses and distribution of fine rice. Further, 100 integrated schools were sanctioned across the state, each built on 25 acres at a cost of ₹200 crore, including one in Parigi.
Mr. Vikramarka announced that the government would launch ‘Prajabata’, a public awareness initiative under the Ministry of Electricity. Officers will visit people directly three days a week using an “ambulance-like” vehicle. He also said that solar power generation will increase significantly.
He argued that no opposition could hinder the progress of the state. “Congress rule will not fool the people. This is a government that works for the people and that is the basic ideology of the Congress party,” he said.
