In the first place, the Government Farm Seeds in Occkal, near Perumbavoor, examines the possibility to obtain credits for carbon trading, although the process of assessing the emission and sequestration on the farm is completed and the official statement of results is expected at the end of this month.
The clerk associated with the seed farm, which will be second in a row to obtain carbon neutral after the Thuruth Seed, Aluva farm, said the OKKAL Farm has grown to a comprehensive experience for farmers and students who take care of nature.
The official added that a group of educational institutions teamed up with Occkal for the fact that the farm has become a study center for nature care and for experiencing the way agriculture is carried out in an integrated way.
Students of zoology, botany and sociology attend the farm to study conditions there. In addition to the production of unpeeled seeds, chicken, ducks, cows and bees, they are kept on the farm in an organized way. It also has a butterfly park, in addition to the production of honey and centers for the production of mushrooms.
Students attending the farm are treated with various activities, including field visits, stay in traditional houses and bamboo houses, mud football and animal care.
The agricultural authorities stated that an attempt to obtain a farm in the future would be certified for carbon trading. This will be the first attempt to monetize the work.
Farm of 10 acres produces about 60 to 70 tons of non -pebble seeds each year, along with one or two tons of plant seeds and coconut fingers and decorative plants.
The effort to transfer state farms to carbon neutral entities is part of the government’s efforts to transform 14 farms into such facilities and neutralize carbon emissions in the state.
