Oscar for KL Rahul? Indian opener tricks Afghanistan into not taking DRS in Mullanpur Test
If the Kannada film industry is looking for a new hero, then KL Rahul has entered the star audition as he survived a clear dismissal during the Mullanpur Test against Afghanistan. The incident occurred during the 11th over of the match when Ziaur Rahman Sharifi steamed and delivered one outside off stump.

Afghanistan were aiming for this line on Rahul early and the Indian opener put up a bit of a fight trying to break free. He went for a cut-shot and there was a bit of noise as the ball went into the hands of Afghanistan keeper Afsar Zazai.
A batsman should learn ethics and sportsmanship at least in Test Cricket.
KL Rahul was clearly out but the umpire didn’t lift a finger.
My point is that KL Rahul must have sensed the edge but still chose to stay at the crease. He is such an awkward person.#INDvsAFG pic.twitter.com/AlUYcurApx— Arjun Pandey (@CallmeArjunn) June 6, 2026
The visitors went for an appeal but the umpire and Rahul remained unmoved. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who was at slip, begged his captain Hasmatullah Shahidi to go for DRS but he decided against it.
Once the replay was shown on the big screen, the ultraedge showed that there was a clear nickname from Rahul, prompting Graeme Swann to say on commentary that he should be nominated for an Oscar.
“KL Rahul, come here, here’s your oscar,” Swann said.
Rahul had another lucky break when he was hit in the pads in the 16 and Afghanistan did not appeal. Hawkeye indicated that while the bump would have been the umpire’s call, the ball was on its way to hitting the stumps.
Despite these moments, Rahul has been solid with his shots and looks set for a big score on the day. Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal put on a 41-run stand before the southpaw was dismissed. Rahul also surpassed 9,000 first-class runs during his knock so far as Afghanistan were made to rue their mistakes.
