Baselios Marthom Mathews III, Catholicos and Malankára Metropolitan of the Orthodox Syrian Church in Malankara, here on Sunday called on the government of the left democratic front (LDF) to respond to the requirements of accredited social health activists (ASHA).
After the management of the Easter service in its home parish, the Church of Sts. Peter in Liazhoor, Catholic said that Ashas are in households looking for only a modest increase in their wages, even up to 100 GBP. “The apathy of the government for their request must be re -evaluated,” he said.
The Catholics expressed concern about farmers and coastal communities in the state, and also warned against growing cases that could potentially cause religious disagreements in Kerala. He also called on the government to take the lead in solving long -term problems related to land in coastal regions.
“Mutual love”
As for the dispute of the Church of Malaankara, Catholic hopes that peace can be renewed through mutual love and understanding. “Just as reconciliation has been reached in the past, the Church must again strive for unity,” he said.
On this occasion, Catholicos also expressed his concerns about the growing number of suicides in Kerala. “It is heartbreaking to hear their parents end their lives together with their children. In times of crisis, we have to address those who despair and bring them back to life with hope,” he said.
