The Orissa High Court quashed the criminal complaint and summons issued against Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani while punishing a lawyer for repeatedly filing a criminal complaint over a defective mobile phone worth ₹501 during a 23-year-long litigation from a lower court to the Supreme Court.
Lawyer Prafulla Kumar Mishra was damaged by a faulty handset he bought under the Reliance-branded ‘Kar Lo Duniya Mutthi Mein’ telecom scheme when he paid ₹501 and then agreed to make monthly payments. According to him, the handset was defective from the beginning and the promised telecommunication services were never properly available. He wanted prosecution against Reliance Industries.
