Four lives have been saved after the organs of 19-year-old Jasliya Johnson, who was declared brain dead, were harvested. Following the confirmation of brain death on Tuesday (February 3), relatives expressed their willingness to donate her organs, according to the release. Organ donation procedures were coordinated through the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (K-SOTTO).
Jasliya’s liver was donated to a patient undergoing treatment at Rajagiri Hospital, her kidneys were donated to Kottayam Medical College and her corneas to the Angamaly Eye Bank Association of Kerala.
Ms. Johnson, a native of Edavanakkad, Vypeen, Ernakulam, was a second-year B.Com student at Morning Star College, Angamaly. Jasliya, who was working part-time alongside her studies, met with an accident at TELK Junction in Angamaly on February 28 while returning from work. She was taken to a private hospital in Angamaly and later shifted to Rajagiri Hospital for specialized treatment.

In a bid to promote organ donation efforts, the women’s sub-committee of the All India Lawyers Union organized an organ donation awareness program the other day. Nearly 20 lawyers at the event expressed their willingness to donate their organs.
“We have collected their names and details and pledges of organ donors will be registered in the coming days. The aim was to encourage more people to donate their organs,” said TP Ramesh, district president of the Ernakulam union.
