Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu on Tuesday thanked Ophthalmology Officer Sappati Vasantha Rao for his nomination as a member of the State Council for Allied and Healthcare in the category of Ophthalmic Scientist.

The minister lauded Mr. Vasanth Rao for his selfless service during the last two decades during which he organized eye camps in remote areas of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts. He stressed the need to organize more eye camps in rural areas to address vision problems among the elderly.

Mr. Naidu said Mr. Vasanth Rao’s experience could now be utilized at the state level through his role in the Council, which functions under the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Family Welfare.

Mr. Vasantha Rao said that his eye programs have enabled many illiterate persons to identify and treat eye-related problems at an early stage. He is currently serving in Perumal village of Terlam mandal in Vizianagaram district and has earlier won several awards for his social service initiatives including adoption of Timmayyapeta village in Rajam assembly constituency.
