The government will take strict measures to ensure transparency in the general education sector and maintain the trust of the people, General Education Minister V. Sivankutty said.
Reacting to the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau’s surprise checks, dubbed ‘Operation Blackboard’, at offices under the General Education Department, the minister said on Thursday that the government was looking seriously into the problems found.
Strict action will be taken against officials whose names appear in VACB reports or against whom clear evidence is found. The support would be extended for further checks, the minister said.
He promised legal action against all officials found guilty and retired officials who acted as middlemen.
The minister said that an internal commission of inquiry will be formed to look into all the files and procedures that paved the way for corruption.
The functioning of all offices that see regular interaction with the public would be completely shifted to an online or automated system. Procedures will be adjusted to set a time limit to ensure applications are not delayed, he said in a statement.
He emphasized that there is no place for corruption in the Department of General Education. No official was above the law. Further action will be taken based on the final report after further inspections, Mr. Sivankutty said.
