
Public Works Minister PA Mohamed Riyas said the widened state highway from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram would be opened by January 2026.
Inaugurating a seminar titled ‘Vision 2031’ here on Saturday, he said it would be a ‘New Year gift’ to the people of the state. Mr. Riyas said that ₹5,580 crore has been spent on the development of the National Highway. The Public Works Department has been taking steps to turn Kerala into an “infrastructure development hub” by 2031 and by then all roads will be upgraded.
State highways would be designed as four-lane roads and county roads as two-lane roads. Elevated highways would be built in cities with high traffic density. As per the policy of the proposal, a road network map connecting all the important tourist destinations in the state would be created. Smart roads would be developed in all major cities, Mr. Riyas said.
Thiruvananthapuram Outer Ring Road, Ernakulam Bypass, Kollam-Sengottai Greenbelt and Kozhikode-Palakkad Greenbelt were some of the projects given high priority. Along with this, development of Thrissur-Edappally National Highway as a six-lane road, upgrading of National Highway 766 connecting Kozhikode and Muthanga in Wayanad and upgrading of Adimali-Kumily and Mundakayam-Kumily roads will be started, Mr. Riyas added.
