Openai launched a new version of Chatgpt for U.S. government agencies on Tuesday. This is a self-hosted platform called Chatgpt Gov, and agents can deploy in their on-premises cloud environments. The San Francisco-based AI company said this version of the chatbot will also comply with all U.S. government privacy, security and compliance requirements. It is worth noting that the company recently announced the Stargate project in partnership with technology providers and equity funders to expand its AI infrastructure within the U.S.
Openai Introduction to Chatgpt Gov
In a blog post, OpenAI details a new version of its chatbot. Chatgpt Gov can be understood as a standalone platform that does not require connection to the AI company’s servers to run, and can be hosted on a secure internal cloud server. This ensures that anyone outside the agency has no access to the sensitive and confidential information fed to the AI and will not be stored indefinitely.
The AI company said the decision to provide its products to the U.S. government is to take into account national and public interests, and to empower decision makers to provide better services. Openai also said it believes Chatgpt Gov will “accelerate the internal authorization of OpenAI to process non-public sensitive data.”
Chatgpt Gov can be deployed by agents in their Microsoft Azure commercial cloud, or Azure Communication Cloud on top of Microsoft Azure’s OpenAi service. The AI platform will provide the same functionality as the ChatGpt Enterprise version. The chatbot will be powered by the GPT-4O AI model.
Agents can use Chatgpt Gov for text interpretation, summary, encoding, image interpretation, and other tasks. The self-hosted platform will also allow users to save and share conversations in their workspaces, as well as upload text and image files. In addition, users will be able to build custom GPTs.
For security, OpenAI will also provide management consoles for IT teams and CIOs. Those with administrative privileges will be able to manage users, groups, custom GPT, single login (SSO), and more. The company added that the use of Chatgpt Gov is subject to its use policy.
