Ontario Premier Doug Ford said Friday, Oct. 25, that he has decided to withdraw an anti-tariff ad that angered U.S. President Donald Trump so that trade talks between the U.S. and Canada can resume. The ad prompted Donald Trump to end all trade negotiations with Canada.
Doug Ford said he made the decision after speaking with Prime Minister Mark Carney. “We accomplished our goal by reaching the American audience at the highest levels,” Ford said in a statement, adding, “Our intent has always been to start a conversation about the kind of economy Americans want to build and the impact of tariffs on workers and businesses.”
Ford said the ads will air over the weekend, including the World Series opener between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers.
“I directed my team to pitch our message to the American people over the weekend so that we can air our ad during the first two games of the World Series,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Donald Trump ended “all trade negotiations” with Canada after an Ontario-sponsored ad used former president Ronald Reagan’s words to criticize US tariffs.

Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on Canada and ended all trade negotiations with the neighboring country, calling the ad “fake”.
He said: “The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada fraudulently used an ad that is FAKE in which Ronald Reagan spoke negatively about tariffs. The ad was for $75,000,000. TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO NATIONAL SECURITY AND THE US ECONOMY.”
“Based on their outrageous behavior, ALL TRADE DEALINGS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED,” he announced.
Trump has doubled down on his criticism of the Ontario ads, accusing Canada of trying to influence an upcoming U.S. Supreme Court decision on his global tariff regime.
He said, “CANADA CHEATED AND THEY GOT CAUGHT!!! They fraudulently took a big ad to buy that said Ronald Reagan didn’t like tariffs when in fact he LOVED TARIFFS FOR OUR COUNTRY AND ITS NATIONAL SECURITY.”

Canada has long cheated on tariffs and is charging our farmers up to 400%. Now they and other countries can no longer take advantage of the USA.
