The extent of natural gas leakage from the Eastern Assam Sivasagar district was led by Oil and natural gas (ONGC) to contact foreign experts to limit it.
More than 1,500 people from the villages around the Rudrasagar district were evacuated to safety after leakage four days ago.
On Tuesday (June 17, 2025), Chief Minister Hiant Bisw Sarma said that Ravi Kota, Chief Secretary of Ravi Kota, discussed the affair with the Secretary of the Ministry of Oil and Natural Gas and the chairman of the oil survey, who is expected to soon visit Sivasagar.
“They (Ongc) told us that they bring experts from the US that they are optimistic about blocking the well soon,” he said.
The Minister of Oil and natural gas Hardeep Singh Puri was organized on Tuesday in his office in Nový Delhi.
“He reviewed and took over the update of the well -control activities performed by @ongc_ in Well RDS#147A in the Sivasagar district in Assam. The gas flow continued since the last 4 days due to extremely high pressure in the hole,” he said at X.
Mr. Puri also wrote that the competent staff was sent from other Ombrasagar work centers to Rudrasagar and worked on the spot very high -capacity fire pumps, Frack pump, etc.
“The deployment is also high-tech methods such as unhealthy drawing, and Ombc officers are in constant contact with international overseas.
Mr. Sarma said he would ask Mr. Puri to immediately send experts so that the gas leak could be checked.
“People suffer because they were unable to restore their normal activities. They moved to a nearby school and camp there.
“So far, there is only gas leakage and no fire. But if there is a fire for some reason, it will be a huge disaster. The situation will be controlled. The thing is very serious and very urgent,” Sarma said, adding that he would ask for reasonable compensation for more than 300 affected families from the center.
“We will give a relief of 25,000 GBP each of the affected families from the Auxiliary Minister.
In a statement after the incident OngC, she stated that in close coordination with the district administration he had a safe evacuation of the affected families and ensured safe shelters, nutritious food, clean drinking water and the necessary daily deliveries.
ONGC has also set up free continuous medical camps, which were equipped with doctors and equipped with basic drugs as part of its comprehensive reaction to emergencies, the statement said.
