One person died and four others were injured when a car plunged into a canal near Champakkara near Karukachal on Tuesday evening. The deceased was identified as Shameem, a native of Mangalapuram. Those involved in the accident were private security personnel who were returning after attending an event in Chathannamthitta. The accident took place around 3:45 pm at Ashramampadi on the Kottayam–Kozhencherry Road. The car veered off the road and fell into a canal nearly 15 feet deep. Although the injured were pulled out and immediately taken to the hospital, one person could not be saved.
