
One person died on the spot, while two others were injured when two groups belonging to the same community in Kalluppatti Village under Alagarkai Panchayat near Thottiyam in the Tiruch district on Friday evening.
The victim’s name was given as R. Subramai, 56, farmer. A. Kumar, 42 years, also a farmer who was injured is in a critical condition in a private hospital in Salem. Another person, Chandra, 19, is treated at the Thottiyam Government Hospital.
A group of seven men, allegedly drunk, confronted Subraments, Kumar and Chandra and attacked them with knives before it escaped from the place. Subrapers died on the spot while Kumar and Chandra were hurried to hospitals for treatment.
After the collision, Tiruchi Superintendent of Police S. S. Selvanagarathinam, Musiri DSP Suesh Kumar and Inspector Thottiyam Gnanasekar visited the scene and investigated. Subramin’s body was sent to the Musiri Government Hospital for postmortal examination.
Two people-19 years of Saran from the village of Manamed and a 17-year-old boy-arrested for interrogation in connection with the clash. Preliminary questions revealed that the subrangers and Kumar were relatives.
