A 28-year-old woman was killed and at least six others were injured when the rope of a cable car broke and it crashed into a temple complex in Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday (March 22, 2026) morning, officials said. The accident took place around 10 am at the Khallari Mata temple, located on a hill in Khallari (Bhimkhoj) village of Bagbahra tehsil.
Bagbahra Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Namita Markole told reporters that the trolley’s cable snapped while it was carrying seven passengers down the hill. Ayushi Satkar, a resident of Raipur, died on the spot while six others, including her husband Rishabh Dhavre (29) and another minor relative Chhayansh Dhavre (6), sustained injuries, she added.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed condolences over the episode terming it extremely tragic and painful in a post on X.
“As soon as the information about the accident was received, necessary instructions were issued to the officials concerned to ensure proper treatment of the injured. A detailed investigation into the incident will be conducted and those found responsible will not be spared. I pray to Khallari Mata for the speedy recovery of all the injured devotees,” he said in the post.
