The collapse of the scaffolding at the ESIC Medical College and Hospital in Sanathnagar, according to the dean of the institution, Dr. Shirish Kumar Chavan left one worker dead and four others injured.
The incident occurred around 4:00 pm when work was underway to remove granite from the exterior of the hospital building. The work was carried out by an external agency hired by CPWD. “The scaffolding was in place and an outside agency was working on it,” said Dr. Chavan.
All five injured workers were immediately taken to the hospital’s emergency unit. One of them was almost gasping for breath on arrival and was pronounced dead by the doctors.
Of the remaining four, two are in critical condition and two are stable. “However, their condition could only be confirmed after diagnostic procedures. They are conscious and oriented, but I cannot say that they are stable until the examinations are completed,” Dr Chavan added.
The deceased has been identified as Bhanuchander while Raghupati and Mohan are in critical condition. Mallesh and Misaiah are undergoing treatment.
