Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said on Friday that once five or six stations of Namma Metro Blue Line are completed, they will be opened to the public.
After inspecting the ongoing construction on the Airport Metro (Blue Line) corridor, Mr. Shivakumar said he had carried out progress checks in all departments under his portfolio, including the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), ahead of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly session in Belagavi scheduled for December 8-19.
Mr. Shivakumar said the 58-km ORR–Airport Metro, a ₹ 15,000-crore project connecting the Central Silk Board with the Kempegowda International Airport, would be commissioned in phases if required.
“If the contractor does not complete the work on time, we will not give him any further contracts,” he pointed out.
Mr Shivakumar said deadlines have been set for each section of the Blue Line: Central Silk Board – KR Puram (Phase 2A) section to be completed by December 2026, while KR Puram – Hebbal section has to be ready by December 2027. According to BMRCL, once fully operational, it will provide a seamless transit link of 58.19 km from the IT hubs around Silk Board in the south to the airport in the north via KR Puram.
The 19.75 km long Phase 2A stretch and the 38.44 km long Phase 2B Airport Link will together form the longest uninterrupted metro corridor in the city.
