
The Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Police have strengthened security measures due to Onam’s weekly celebrations.
During the festivities, nearly 1,200 police staff will be deployed in various places and public areas.
Thomon Jose, head of the District Police (Thiruvananthapuram City), said on Wednesday that the multi -layer security plan will be led by representatives of police commissioners who will supervise operations across different zones. The city was divided into nine zones, 22 divisions and 71 sectors for effective coverage and supervision.
A strong contingent of 11 commissioners’ assistants, 24 circle inspectors, 139 subordinate inspectors and more than 1,000 police officers, 175 of whom of them are officers, to maintain order and deal with any extraordinary events during the celebrations.
Control room
A special control room began in the Palace Position, the main place of the festivities. The device will serve as a center for monitoring all real -time activities. Police also installed another 107 CCTV cameras around festival areas that complement existing cameras throughout the city.
The main celebrations, such as Kanakakkunna Palace, Central Stadium and Poojappura Ground, will be under careful observation. Ensuring the emphasis on the safety of women and children was deployed a special security arrangement, including shadow police units and female officers to avoid harassment and other criminal activities.
