The ruling Janata Dal (United) celebrated the party’s 23rd foundation day on Friday (October 30, 2026) and credited party president and former chief minister Nitish Kumar for the development of Bihar.
JD(U) working president Sanjay Jha wrote a message on X’s social media account in which he claimed that the JD(U) has created a distinct identity in Bihar politics due to the trust of the people, dedication of its workers and commitment to good governance.
“Under the guidance and leadership of our esteemed National President Nitish Kumar, the party has played a pivotal role in Bihar’s development, social justice, good governance and inclusive growth. On this special occasion, we heartily congratulate and wish all the leaders, dedicated workers and supporters of the party,” said Mr. Jha wrote.
He added that we should come together to strengthen our resolve for public service and continue to work tirelessly for the progress and prosperity of Bihar.
JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha also greeted on the occasion of the party’s Foundation Day and said that the 23-year illustrious journey of JD(U) under the leadership of Nitish Kumar is dedicated to the values of social justice and good governance.
Speaking to the media, he identified Mr. Kumar as the undisputed leader of the party and his son Nishant Kumar, who is also the Health Minister of Bihar, as the future leader of the party. Mr. Kushwaha said that the JD(U) was founded on October 30, 2003 and drew inspiration from the ideals of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, Loknayaka Jayaprakash Narayana and Jannayaka Karpoori Thakur.
“Since its inception, the party has remained committed to the principles of social justice, good governance and social harmony throughout its 23-year journey. When Nitish Kumar took over the reins of Bihar in November 2005, he ushered in a new era for the state,” Kushwaha said.
He added that Mr. Kumar introduced a transformative model of ‘development with equity’, good governance and women empowerment that fundamentally changed the destiny and image of Bihar.
The JD(U) state president pointed out that while the term ‘Bihari’ had become synonymous with contempt and neglect before 2005, Nitish Kumar through his efforts restored the honor and self-respect of Bihar and its people.
In his felicitation message, Mr. Kushwaha asked all party workers and leaders to embrace determination to take JD(U) to unprecedented heights of success in the coming days.
“We will further strengthen the hands of the future of the party and our beloved Health Minister Nishant ji. We will strengthen our resolve to take the socialist principles of our leader Nitish Kumar as well as his contributions to the development of Bihar to every household and every individual,” said Mr. said Kushwaha.
The JD(U) has also decided to organize a program titled Sushasan Diwas: Nitish Samvad (Good Governance Day: Dialogue with Nitish) on November 24, 2026 in all the districts of the state.
Senior leader and minister Leshi Singh has been appointed as the ‘state coordinator’ for the implementation of this programme.
