The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Thursday (September 17, 2026) launched a nationwide campaign claiming that there are more than 50 lakh sanctioned government posts and demanding they be filled within a year, choosing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday as the launch of the drive.

The Congress Party’s youth wing also warned of a protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence if the vacancies remain vacant after a year.

Launched in Delhi, the ‘Meri Degree Ka Kya’ (What About My Degree) campaign will seek a time-bound recruitment calendar for each vacancy with fixed dates for examinations and meetings.

Marches across India

Delhi Youth Congress president Akshay Lakra said the organization would hold “job marches” and “diploma marches” across the country over the next year.

Claiming that 50,05,850 sanctioned government posts are lying vacant across the country, Mr. Lakra claimed that filling them would provide employment to the youth and strengthen public services like schools and hospitals.

In its political jab at the prime minister on his birthday, the Youth Congress said educated youths are forced to struggle for jobs despite spending years and family resources on their education.

The IYC also referred to Mr. Modi’s earlier promise to create 2 million jobs a year.

If the government did not fill the vacancies within a year, the organization would stage a protest outside the prime minister’s residence on his next birthday, according to Lakra.

IYC National Secretary Parminder Singh Pummy was also present at the press conference.
