The double Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen withdrew from the BWF World Championship, scheduled for August 25 in Paris. Danish Great took the social media to confirm his withdrawal from the prestigious tournament biennial on Thursday, August 07.
Axelsen underwent surgery in April to treat herniation of the disk and has not played a competing badminton ever since. The double world champion confirmed that he did not get involved in time at the upcoming event in Paris.
“After careful consultation with my medical team, I was recommended to spend more time on my rehabilitation. Unfortunately, I will not be able to get the tournament ready in time to compete safely at the upcoming World Cup,” he said.
“Although it is difficult to miss such a big event, I am not discouraged. On the contrary, I am very motivated to constantly push forward with my rehabilitation and set a new goal to return stronger,” he added.
Axelsen, 31, did not compete on tour since he suffered the second round at the European Championships in April. The year began by winning India Open in Nový Delhi, but suffered a shock initial defeat on the All England Open. Axelsen, which was included in the first 5 TOP 5, has now dropped to the world 18.
Axelsen was in 2017 and 2022 in 2017 and 2022 in the quarterfinals of the Indian HS prannoyem at last year’s issue of the tournament held in Copenhagen.
Axelsen will now focus on complete recovery and timing of its return as it builds towards the Olympic Games in 2028. The Danish Space Shuttime, which won gold in Tokyo and defended its crown in Paris, will look at the Historical trick in Los Angeles.
At this year’s Paris World Championship, Danish hopes in the male singles will be at World No. 2 Anders Antonsen, who enjoyed a great run – won Indonesia open and third in China in June and July.
