A shocking murder case has emerged from Haryana accusing former Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa and his ex-MLA wife Razia Sultana of killing their drug-addicted son. The 35-year-old deceased Aqil Akhtar was found dead at his residence on October 16 and the police was informed soon after, reported the Indian Express.
According to Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of Police Srishti Gupta, an autopsy was conducted and foul play was not suspected. The body was handed over to the family for last rites but on October 20, but a little later an FIR was registered alleging foul play in Akhtar’s death.

Complainant Shamshudin Chaudhary of Punjab’s Malerkotla made serious allegations against the parents of the deceased, his wife and sister Nishat Akhtar, accusing them of conspiring in the murder of Aqil Akhtar. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to investigate the alleged videos of Aqil Akhtar, which were submitted as evidence.
Retired IPS officer Mustafa, however, cited political conspiracy over the complaint and said that Shamshudin Chaudhary was a former “personal assistant (PA)” to Mohammad Jamil ur Rahman, who is the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Malerkotla.
According to Aqil Akhtar’s father, the complainant was expelled from AAP following allegations of taking bribes and kickbacks. It is important to note that MLA Rahman defeated late Sultan’s mother who is a Congress leader in 2022 polls.
Condemning the complaint and accusing the complainant of low-level politicking, Sultana and Nishat Akhtar, who is also a Congress leader, released a statement on their official Facebook pages on October 21.

“According to ex-DGP Mustafa and as per the rules, if the police receives any complaint, then it becomes the duty of the police to register an FIR, but that does not mean that any offense has been proved. Now the investigation will actually begin and the truth will come out in front of the people. It is true that we were devastated by the death of our little son, but that does not mean that we will not fight this dirty politician.”
What is in Aqil Akhtar’s alleged videos?
In the video, Aqil Akhtar claimed that his family called him a liar and said that they will “accuse me in a false case… Their plan is to get me falsely imprisoned or even killed,” according to the report. He also accused his family of questioning his mental abilities, saying: “They are trying to create a fake story.”
In another recent alleged video, Akhtar retracted his statement and said, “Earlier I posted a video where I said many things. It was because of my mental illness… I am blessed with such a good family.”
What does former DGP Mohammad Mustafa say about his son?
Denying the allegations against him and his family, the ex-DGP said his son was a drug addict for the past 18 years who developed a serious mental illness and became “psychotic”.
“He died after a buprenorphine injection in an overdose according to initial police investigation. We treated him for addiction for 18 years from 2007, including at PGIMER Chandigarh, but he relapsed. He even set fire to our house once,” a news website quoted the former DGP as saying.

Insinuating a buprenorphine overdose, Mustafa added, “He was into drugs since he was in class 10 at Welham Boys School in Dehradun and was expelled from several schools in Chandigarh. We treated him for addiction since 2007 but he relapsed.”
He further accused his son of harassing family members due to psychosis. Speaking to The Indian Express, he said, “We lodged police complaints against him several times in Panchkula, but we withdrew it as he was our blood.”
Police have sent samples of Akhtar’s viscera to the forensic department to identify the substance consumed, but the report will not be out for two months at the earliest.
