The webinar on “Emerging Careers 2030: Why Humanities and Sciences hold the key, organized together by the SRM Institute of Science and Technology and Hindu experts stressed that a relatively old career remains relevant.
For Vice -Chairman at the Institute of Science and Technology Vinay Kumar and founder and CEO, Inomi Learning, Grrabram, Richa Dwivedi Saklani spoke about several new professional opportunities for students studying science or humanities.
Mr. Kumar said that while the AI, the green economy and sustainability, logistics and electronic trade and medical and life sciences have emerged areas, as stated in the future of the World Economic Forum 2025, in the future, the current career would not change much. He said that jobs such as journalism, human resources and corporate communication would remain important.
Mrs. Saklani responded to his observation that India had specific problems, such as the growing development of cities and an aging company that required customized solutions.
Both speakers emphasized the importance of acquiring interdisciplinary skills. Mrs. Saklani said that while people in the sciences have to learn how to treat people effectively and identify talent, people in humanities must be more open to the use of technology, new software and AI.
Mr. Kumar emphasized writing convincingly, critical thinking and empathy as important skills of contemporary and the future. “When people train in more fields, their thinking will change fundamentally,” he said, adding that national educational policy emphasized multidisciplinary education.
The speakers also said that internships were important in expanding CVS. Mr. Kumar said that several companies are now asking universities to send students to work with them. He said that SRM even reduced the course work so that students could participate in internships. “However, companies must cooperate with universities to make these internships meaningful,” he stressed.
Mrs. Saklani said Inomi encouraged students to gain internships because they helped them “build skills in a living environment with mentor support”. Internships, said, helped students “hit the ground” when she enters the labor market.
