Maria Corina Macado Bags Nobel Peace Prize
The Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who is hiding, won the Nobel Prize of the Nobel Prize 2025 on Friday for her efforts to support democracy in the country.
In 2024, Machado, a 58 -year -old industrial engineer, was blocked by Venezuel’s courts in the President. This prevented her from attacking President Nicolas Madur, who held power since 2013.
The Nobel Commission appreciated her “for her tireless work supporting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a fair and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy”.
The head of the Norwegian Nobel Commission Joergen Watne Frydnes hoped that the price would encourage Venezuelan’s opposition efforts.
“We hope that the whole opposition will have restored energy to continue working for a peace transition from dictatorship to democracy,” Frydnes told Reuters.
This year there were 338 nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, which consisted of 244 individuals and 94 organizations. Although the rules of the Nobel Foundation are pursuing that the names of the nominated ones remain secret for 50 years, there have been speculation over Trump’s victory that consistently claimed to deserve the price.
