In a stern rebuke to the local revenue machinery, Upalokayukta criticized the tahsildar and other officials for not taking action against the blatant encroachments along the Cauvery in Srirangapatna.
The order said authorities not only withheld information about the crackdown, but also allowed illegal resorts and commercial establishments to flourish in the restricted zones.
“The tahasildar and the authorities shall not disclose any information regarding encroachment of public property, river or buffer zone to protect the natural flow of river Cauvery,” the Upalokayukta order said.
It said authorities could not discriminate and any measures taken should be uniform regardless of the trespassers on government land.
In a sharp rebuke to the authorities, the order stated that illegal resorts and other commercial establishments use electricity, water connections and other amenities for which building or trade permits and NOCs have not been issued by the competent authorities according to the respondents’ version, which is also a surprise and a shock.
Thus, the authorities do not show the utmost honesty, integrity, sincerity and fidelity to their work as government officials, as ordered by the Upalokayukta.
