The Information Kerala Mission (IKM), an autonomous body tasked with automating and connecting all local self-government institutions in the state, will relaunch the official website of the Kozhikode Corporation in two months.
The digital overhaul follows a long period in which the corporation’s online presence was reportedly criticized as outdated. The project is aimed at modernizing the platform, which has been stagnant for some time and is plagued by missing sections and a lack of regular updates.
According to an official attached to IKM, work on the site is progressing rapidly. “The portal will undergo a complete interface change,” the official said. “It will contain regular updates of council meeting minutes, financial statements, standing committee decisions, annual plans and several other administrative parts that have not been updated on the existing website,” he added.
Separate sections for hearings, water committee, health authority and health circle are also expected to be included in the redesigned website. A section of the Right to Information (RTI) Act will also be incorporated. The redesigned website will also integrate various e-governance services, including electronic payment facilities for property tax and building permit fees.
Users will be able to access electronic services such as birth and death certificates, marriage certificates, Social Security pension data, building permits and government regulations. Electronic filing services will also be available. These services redirect users to official government portals, making it easier to access and navigate apps and services.
The website will also include a Geographic Information System (GIS), a digital mapping system that allows users to view and analyze spatial and location information. The system will help users understand the city’s infrastructure and service locations through interactive maps.
Once launched, the updated website is expected to serve as an accessible digital platform for information on the services provided by the company.
