
The ODISH government plans to restore “Pathher Puri”, the residence of the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore in Puri and develop it in the museum. The decision was taken at a high -level meeting, which was chaired on Wednesday (October 8, 2025) by the Minister of Culture Suryabanshi Suraj.
The house stands near the coast on the land originally assigned to the poet before India’s independence. Later he was built by the Tagore family. In the following years, the property served as a boys’ hostel for students of Samant Chandra Sechar College, Puri. The building narrowly escaped the demolition of the municipalities of Puri after the activists started the campaign to maintain it.
At a high -level meeting, it was also decided to set up a thematic pavilion representing important writers Odia and their literary contributions to Cuttack Bali Jatra, an annual weekly festival that resembles the paths of ancient Odia Mariners to the islands that are part of Modern Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
