October 10 CJP protest: Delhi Police security plan, traffic curbs and what commuters should know | Today’s news

Delhi is gearing up for heightened security ahead of the proposed Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, October 10. The Delhi Police has drawn up a district-wide deployment plan with additional measures to prevent protesters from reaching protest sites and maintain law and order.

According to a report from Indian Expressthe plan includes 37 blockade points across the New Delhi district, dedicated detention centers in all 15 police districts and instructions to deny permission for protests at Jantar Mantar on 10 October.

The security measures follow what senior Delhi police officers described as two major lapses during the CJP agitation in July. The protest is expected to attract several organisations, leading to increased security in and around the New Delhi district.

Here’s what you need to know about the proposed protest and upcoming security measures.

October 10 CJP protest: What is Delhi Police’s plan?

Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar met senior officers at the police headquarters on Thursday to finalize the security strategy, reports The Indian Express.

A senior officer said the police decided not to grant permission for the demonstrations at Jantar Mantar on October 10 and instructed district leaders to set up dedicated detention centres.

“First, it has been decided not to grant any permission to anyone to hold any kind of dharna or protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10. All district heads have been directed to set up special detention centers in their districts and detain all protesters in their own districts only,” the officer said.

Police have also been instructed to step up patrolling to prevent people traveling to the protest from proceeding outside their jurisdiction. Those who refuse to return are to be sent to detention centers, the report said.

37 blocking points planned across New Delhi district

As part of the security measures, the police have allocated 37 blocking points across the New Delhi district, with each point assigned to a specific district or unit.

The strategy follows an internal assessment of the July agitation, during which senior officers said police had underestimated the number of protesters and deployed personnel from different units in the same locations.

“We made two mistakes last time. First, we failed to assess the number of protesters and second, we deployed different units and precincts at the same location. This time we decided to allocate one specific point to one unit or precinct,” said a senior officer.

All precincts, units and battalions were instructed to report at designated assembly points on Saturday at 11 a.m. for briefing and deployment.

Will the metro stations be closed?

According to a report by The Indian Express, restrictions or closure of around 40 metro stations in and around sensitive areas are being considered ahead of the proposed protest.

About 16 metro stations were closed during the CJP protest in July.

However, commuters should check the official Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) notification before travelling, for confirmation of any station closures, entry restrictions or service changes. The proposed closures should not be considered confirmed unless the authorities issue an official announcement.

Will there be traffic restrictions in Delhi?

The Delhi Police has planned additional security deployments and blockade points in the New Delhi district, which could affect movement at sensitive locations.

Police also checked hotels and guesthouses across the capital and ordered them to inform local police if they identified visitors suspected of taking part in the protest, the report said.

Commuters traveling through central Delhi, especially around Jantar Mantar and other designated security points, should check traffic alerts before starting their journey and allow extra time if necessary.

Specific road closures, diversions and timings should be confirmed through official updates from the Delhi Traffic Police.

What did the Delhi Police say about the protest?

Delhi Police have warned against unauthorized gatherings while the restrictions remain in place. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shrishti Pandey said that Section 163 is in force in the national capital and that protests will not be allowed at Jantar Mantar or elsewhere during the restricted period.

“Section 163 is in force, which means protests are not allowed – neither in Jantar Mantar nor anywhere else. Any assembly will be considered illegal and we would be forced to take necessary legal action against it,” Pandey said.

She also urged people not to attend unauthorized gatherings and to prioritize their safety and the safety of their families.

“I would like to call on the protesters not to take part in such illegal gatherings. Also prioritize your own safety. Think about your family’s safety as well,” she said.

What should commuters and residents do?

Residents and commuters planning to travel through Central Delhi on October 10 should:

See Delhi Traffic Police advisory for confirmed road closures and diversions.

Check the DMRC notification before traveling through metro stations in sensitive areas.

Allow additional travel time if their route passes through Jantar Mantar or nearby security zones.

Follow the instructions of police personnel at checkpoints and restricted areas.

Please verify information through official channels before changing travel plans.

The Delhi Police deployment plan is to maintain law and order during the proposed protest. Commuters should rely on official updates on confirmed traffic restrictions and public transport changes as the situation develops.
