LDF District Convener Mukkom Mohammed, CPI(M) District Secretary M. Mehboob, Communist Party of India District Secretary P. Gavas and other LDF leaders while addressing the media here on Thursday (December 18) claimed that though the United Democratic Front (UDF) had made gains in the recently concluded local polls in the mass base of L Kozhikode, the mass base of the L.DF remained. They claimed that the UDF could win more seats in the district because of its direct and indirect association with the BJP and organizations espousing minority communalism.

Meanwhile, CPI(M) senior leader P. Mohanan claimed that contrary to what was portrayed in a section of the media, the UDF had lost its upper hand in certain segments of the Kozhikode Assembly as compared to the situation after last year’s Lok Sabha elections. In the assembly segments in the Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency, the LDF had a lead of more than 50,000 votes, he said. In Vadakara municipality, the LDF won more seats and retained power. The LDF’s dominance was evident in the political votes that were cast in the district panchayat division elections, he added. Asked about the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s allegation of being sidelined in the LDF, the leaders said such issues would be discussed and resolved soon.
Milli Mohan will head the district panchayat
Meanwhile, the Congress has chosen Milli Mohan, who was elected from Kodenchery division of Kozhikode panchayat district, as its candidate for the post of president. Indian Union Muslim League nominated KK Navas for the post of Vice President. The UDF and its ally, the Revolutionary Marxist Party, won 15 seats in the 28-member panchayat.
In Kozhikode Corporation, Manakkal Sasi, who was elected from Mankavu ward, was chosen as the leader of the Congress Council party.
