New York City Comproller and the candidate for the democratic mayor of Brad Lander was arrested on Tuesday by federal agents at the Manhattan immigration court, an incident that brought sharp criticism over federal immigration.
Lander, who observed the immigration hearing and said he was present to “accompany” the individuals who left the courtroom, were detained together with the person he accompanied. The arrest witnessed the reporter Associated Press and captured in the video.

The video from the incident is shown by agents trying to separate the lander from the man they retained. Lander resisted and briefly combined weapons with an individual.
“I’m not surprised, I’m standing here in the hallway,” Lander hears when he’s in the shots when he’s bonds.
“You do not have the power to arrest the US citizens applying for a court order,” he added as he was led by the corridor and into the elevator.
One agent wore a tactical vest marked with a “federal agent”, while others were in ordinary face with facial masks.

Lander’s wife Meg Barnette sentenced Lander’s wife at a press conference later on Tuesday.

She described how her husband tried to combine weapons with a man after an immigration hearing when “we were swarms with a number of federal agents”.

The arrest took place on 26 federal squares in the middle of a wider campaign of large federal enforcement of immigration enforcement outside the courtroom after the nationwide level.
The Federal Authorities must still publish a statement. Questions on the FBI and American immigration and enforcement of customs schools (ICE) were not returned.
Lander campaign will answer
In his statement, Lander’s concerning campaign confirmed the arrest: “The defendant of the defendant from the immigration court in 26 federal squares was backed by masked agents and detained by ice.”
Lander is a leading progressive voice in the primary democratic mayor. Early voting is underway in the city’s elections.
Echoes from Newark arrest
The episode comes only a few weeks after the mayor of Ras Baraka was arrested for an offense during the protest in the ice facility. This accusation was canceled, but a colleague of Democrats Rep. Lamonica Mciver was later accused of allegedly defending Baraka’s arrest. She denied the accusation and promised to fight them.
Since then, Baraka has filed a federal action against the temporary American lawyer Alina Habba and claimed that false arrests and harmful prosecution.
