NuMaTS camp starts at IIST

At the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Valiamala, here on Friday, a seven-day camp to identify students in government and aided schools who have talent in mathematics and train them began.

Dipankar Banerjee, Vice Chancellor, IIST, inaugurated the Nurturing Mathematical Talents in Schools (NuMaTS) camp organized by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). Up to 235 students participate in the camp at IIST.

NuMaTS focuses on turning children who are interested in mathematics into talents. Selected students in Class VI are given support in Mathematics up to Class X. Special holiday camps will also be organized for these students in State and National Mathematical Institutions.

SCERT Director Jayaprakash RK presided over the inauguration. IIST Pro Vice-Chancellor Kuruvilla Joseph; Head of Department of Mathematics TG Deepak; Deans KSS Moosath and Anandamayee Tej; University of Kerala Professor E. Krishnan; and NuMaTS Coordinator S. Selvamari spoke.
