“Numaish is a model for Telangana’s business and cultural development. Over the decades, it has evolved into much more than just a fair,” Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said during an award ceremony at the exhibition on Thursday.

The minister said the event has attracted over 20 million visitors so far, reflecting the strong connection people have with Hyderabad and the enduring appeal of the annual exhibition.

He noted that Numaish serves as an important platform for small and medium traders from across the country to showcase and sell their products. He suggested that its benefits should be extended further, calling for the exhibition to be extended to district headquarters across the state.

Tracing its history, the minister pointed out that the exhibition started in 1938 with just 100 stalls and has now grown to around 1,100 stalls, signaling significant industrial and business progress. He said Numaish creates significant direct and indirect employment and contributes significantly to economic activity.

Describing the exhibition as an integral part of Hyderabad’s identity, alongside Charminar, Golconda and the city’s famous biryani, the minister said it symbolizes unity in diversity. With products from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Numaish represents a ‘mini India’ and reflects the city’s Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb composite.

He also commended the Exhibition Society for using its income for social purposes, particularly through the management of 19 educational institutions serving nearly 30,000 students, with a special focus on women’s education.
